100K Training

Saturday = Long Run Day. My goal was to do 17 miles and that is what I ended up with. I could have gone further, but was short on time as my son had a football game this morning and I was eager to watch him. Not that I would have gone much longer, but 18 or 19 would have been perfect. No regrets.

No problems with recovery either which is quite nice. I changed my diet and lifestyle significantly over time and I am sure the quick recovery is a direct result of this. In addition I am running 90% of my runs following the MAF method and that makes a big difference, too. With MAF you run based on heart rate (I am using a Garmin 630 with heart rate monitor (affiliate link – thank you for supporting the blog)) and I love how easy it is on the body. No soreness and fast recovery.

Lately my MAF efforts have been stalling and a couple of changes are being implemented. I have shifted my diet to primal eating following the steps in Mark Sisson’s book (affiliate link – thank you for supporting my blog) and I am also doing a keto cleanse following Maria Emmerich’s book (affiliate link – thank you for supporting this blog).

Training for my first 100K

Phew. Long time no see, dear blog readers. There is so much I have to say and so little time even for the basics at the moment. Let’s see – can I fit a basic update into one single sentence? I’ll doubt it and so I will try a bullet list instead, but have mercy with me.

  • My old job was shipped to India and I had to find a new one
  • Found a new job in time, but it was an out-of-state job (California)
  • Moved the first time for the new job (rented a room)
  • Moved the second time for the new job (rented an apartment)
  • Sold my house in Colorado and moved my family to be with me
  • Bought a new house near the new job and moved again to the new house
  • New job is fun, but very demanding – long days accordingly

Somehow now it is early November 2017 and it all is like a blur. I barely remember how I got here.

The good news is that I am still running and it is an important part of my life to keep to me fit and to keep me grounded from all the crazy stuff happening this year.

Now I am at a point at least where I feel comfortable to add more running to my schedule and accordingly I signed up for my next race. I do not believe it, but I haven’t run a single race in 2017. That is really sad and so that is going to change. Accordingly my next race is going to be a new challenge for me. I signed up for my very first 100K race. I did a 50 mile race last year and I could not find a local 50 miler that would fit into my schedule, so doing a 100 Kilometer race is a great alternative and I am totally excited to try myself at that distance.

Now I hope to become more active again here on the blog. It might not be really long blog posts, but I need to remind myself to share my training experience. I am taking another stab at using the MAF method for running and at the same time I am putting a lot of effort in to transfer my diet to be primal. I am doing a keto-cleanse type of diet at the moment to shift away from carbs. This is going well at the moment and I lost 5-6 lbs in the first 10 days.

The best thing is that living in California it is really nice to train through Winter. Not much rain, no more snow, and no more long runs in freezing temperatures. I am training for the Sycamore Canyon 100K and not having to worry about snow and ice – simply awesome.

Race Report: The Bear Chase 50 Miler – 2016

Bear Chase Race BibSo, it is now over a week ago that I ran the Bear Chase 50 miler. Yes, you heard that right – I did it. I finished my very 50 mile race in 10 hours and about 36 minutes. I am so happy about it and still cannot believe it actually. The time is slower than expected, but after injuring myself 3.5 weeks before I really don’t care. I showed up and ran the best I could and that is all that matters to me.

The weather forecast for the race was great. It actually cooled down from mid-80s to mid-60s for the day of the race. However, the early morning temperatures were in the upper 30s and I was not ready for such cold temperatures really and so I wore gloves and a hat for the first hour of the race and I was glad I did. After that I slowly got rid of layers of clothing until ending up running in shorts and T-Shirt for the rest of the day. [Read more…]

Sycamore Canyon 100K Review

It is Sunday, February 25, 2018 and I am sitting at the kitchen table a bit tired, but in great spirits after yesterday’s race. I ran and completed my very first 100K in 14 hrs. and 53 minutes. It was a long day and there were quite a few dark spots between mile 26 and […]
