Yesterday I drove about 800 miles from my home south of Denver to Las Vegas Nevada. I am here for the Las Vegas Rock N Roll marathon that is happening on 11/17/2013. I am suffering from an ear infection and the ENT doc had said I should drive not fly if I wanted to get to Vegas. Since my gas guzzler F-150 Pickup truck is not the best choice for such a long trip I decided to rent a car. I got this neat looking Ford Fusion and it is a pretty good car. It has plenty of horsepower and I was happy to see the gas mileage to be in the low 30s. In the end I averaged roughly 33 miles per gallon – my pickup truck would have been in the mid teens for that, so definitely the way to go.
It was a long day of driving. I left at about 6.45 AM Mountain Time and arrived at about 5.30 PM Mountain Time at the hotel in Henderson. Las Vegas is on Pacific Time and so I had an additional hour left in my day. It was sunny and mid 40’s when I left Denver. In between it was often overcast and at one point I even had snow in western Utah. The lowest temperature of the day was 19 degrees up high in the Rocky Mountains. The highest temperature of the day was 76 degrees about 45 minutes of Las Vegas. After checking into the hotel I went for a 2 mile run around the block. It was the first time in almost 2 weeks that I went out for a run and it felt different, but good. I do not hear on my left ear and will not get my hearing back probably for many weeks according to the doctor. So, running felt different and sounds different – something I have to get used to, but overall it was Ok. I was very happy that I actually made it to Las Vegas and that I could get a run in. It was definitely not a sure thing after what happened in the last 2 weeks. I am also not sure how my fitness is holding up. I was side-lined for almost 2 weeks – quite a few days I actually spent in bed or on the couch simply suffering through the stupid head cold and the ear infection. Certainly not a good way to go through the taper.
I took a lot of pictures while driving to catch the different sceneries I was driving through. I really enjoyed this trip even though it was a long day. I like road trips of this kind and I really enjoy the landscape and the things I see in between. So, low and behold – here are the different pictures I took from my road trip yesterday.
