I am Hungry

Wasa Krispy Bread Sandwich with Cheese/Salami

Today is one of those days. I feel hungry since I got up this morning (4.10 AM). As always I had started my day with eating a Banana and having a large glass of Flax Milk. Then I went to Kosama for my morning workout. I had a protein shake (Muscle Milk) right after and about 45 minutes after the workout I had a bowl of Oatmeal with Raisins. Usually this carries me through the morning until lunch time, but on some days I get burst feelings of being hungry.

Today is such a day and I could eat, eat, and eat. At 9.30 AM I had a small breakfast burrito, but at 10.15 AM I felt hungry again and so I ate part of my lunch meal already = 2 slices of WASA Krispy Bread slapped together with a slice of Muenster Cheese and 2 small slices of Hard Salami. I also had plenty of water already this morning and even a small cup of coffee at around 8.30 AM. Now lunch time is approaching and I am kind of hungry again. I think the whole grains and the protein from the small sandwich from 45 minutes is finally working. I am also drinking more water, but are paying the price with frequent trips to the bathroom. I am sure some of my co-workers are wondering about that already. I almost feel like the guy from a TV commercial from a few years ago. It was for a product to stop the frequent urge of going potty and they showed the guy (before he took the drug) pulling a Porta Potty on a trailer behind his car. Of course I am not that bad, but you get the idea of what I am trying to say (it sucks having to go more frequently).

Me - Grumpy

Me – Grumpy

So, I am not sure why I am so hungry (but it makes me grumpy). This happens every once in a while for no apparent reason. My diet on week day mornings is very similar and today was no different. I have no clue what triggers these bursts of hunger at this point and I am still trying to find ways to better deal with it when it happens. I am eating decently healthy – especially during my marathon training. I do not drink sodas and I barely use artificial sweetener, too. When I drink Green Tea I use honey to sweeten the cup of tea. Most websites I have been reading on about this refer to Splenda and other artificial sweeteners that cause this type of reaction, but I just do not see that applying to my case with how and what I eat.

It is almost noon now and here is what I ate and drink so far:

Food
1 Banana
1 Honeycrisp Apple
1 Wasa Krispy Bread Sandwich
1 small Breakfast Burrito
1 Bowl of Oatmeal with Raisins

Fluids
16 oz. of Water
6 oz. of Flax Milk
28 oz. of Protein/Recovery Shake (Water/Muscle Milk)
4 oz. of Coffee

Here is what I have remaining in my lunch box today:

1 Banana
1 Honeycrisp Apple
2 Wasa Krispy Bread Sandwich (same as shown on the picture earlier)

I worked out this morning and burned about 370 calories based on what the Kosama Heart Rate Monitor thingy was telling me. Today’s workout was about Core and upper body = not much cardio and therefore not as many calories burned as usual. I think at this point I consumed too many calories already for what I have done or are close to breaking even, but the day is still long. I dearly want to avoid consuming too many calories while in training. I still have a training run planned for this afternoon and so I should burn another ~700 of extra calories or so. That probably is enough if I can keep the hunger under control, but it is frustrating that these types of days can throw you off track so easily. I have not planned my dinner meal yet, but will probably go for some salad and some smoked Salmon maybe. I will also have another Protein/Recovery Shake after my run this afternoon, but everything else should be just water and tea.

If you are a runner reading this, does something like this happen to you as well? How do you deal with hunger, eating, and portion control? Do you have a better diet plan in place? Would love to hear from you in the comment section.

Sycamore Canyon 100K Review

It is Sunday, February 25, 2018 and I am sitting at the kitchen table a bit tired, but in great spirits after yesterday’s race. I ran and completed my very first 100K in 14 hrs. and 53 minutes. It was a long day and there were quite a few dark spots between mile 26 and […]
