Today is the second day of my training schedule for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in Las Vegas. It is Thursday evening and technically I missed parts of my training plan for the week already, but up until late Tuesday night I did not even had this Marathon on map. However, the good news is that I did have 1 hour long workouts on Monday and Tuesday, so no harm done.
Yesterday and today I looked at several Marathon training plans and based on the time I have left before race day I developed my own version. It is kind of based on what has worked for other people, but most Marathon training plans are based on 16-20 weeks of time before the race – I have only 12.
Based on some feedback from folks at Runners World Forums I modified my training schedule a bit and added some significant more mileage (aka runs) to my schedule. I will still continue with my Kosama workouts at the same time, but might reduce it if necessary. I do need to and want to avoid injury naturally – so, no hurt feelings either if I cut back on one side and add on the other. I will post a new version of my training schedule in one of the next postings.
I am excited. For a bit I had lost the fun that is in running and now I am completely stocked about running a marathon. Fall is also my favorite running season as I prefer to run in colder weather. About 2 weeks ago I had ordered some new running shoes from Roadrunner sports as they had the last year’s model on sale to make room for the newer versions. I ordered another pair as the low price was too appealing and I will need at least one more pair before the marathon. The new pair will be the one I am going to use for the marathon and I will run only a little bit in these shoes before heading out to Vegas. I also ordered a Nike+ GPS Watch with sensor. Currently I use an older (retired) Android phone as my running tracker, but that is not an option for the race as I will not carry a running belt.
