Forbes just released an updated list of who the wealthiest Americans are these days. There aren’t really any surprises on the list, but it is still amazing to see how these people made their fortune. There are several members of the Walton Family (Wal-Mart) and there are the Koch brothers as. Together these 2 families fill 6 of the 10 spots on this list.
10) Michael Bloomberg | Net Worth = $31 Billion
9) S. Robson Walton | Net Worth = $33.3 Billion
8) Alice Walton | Net Worth = $33.5 Billion
7) Jim Walton | Net Worth = $33.8 Billion
6) Christy Walton | Net Worth = $35.4 Billion
5) Charles Koch | Net Worth = $36 Billion
4) David Koch | Net Worth = $36 Billion
3) Larry Ellison | Net Worth = $41 Billion
2) Warren Buffett | Net Worth = $58.5 Billion
1) Bill Gates | Net Worth = $72 Billion
Bill Gates has been leading this list for the longest time. It is also important to point out that Bill Gates already gave away Billions of Dollars to the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation and he would otherwise be worth over $100 Billion.
While the amount of money on this list is impressive, I am more interested in how these people got to where they are now. It is definitely not being an employee “slaving” away in a cubicle. They built their fortune through self-employment. I am not 100% sure about how the Walton’s made their money as it was Sam Walton who build the company and if they actually “just” inherited the money or if are actively working for the business. However, all other ones on this list earned their fortune through hard work and vision. They were not afraid to take risks and they definitely did not accept a “no, this cannot be done” as an answer when they started their ventures.
And that’s really the purpose of this posting. Do not let anyone tell that certain things cannot be done. If you have a business idea or a project (be it personal or professional in nature) and you are fully convinced of the success of that project, then don’t let others hold you back. Follow that dream and take the risk. You might fail, but you’re not a failure if that would happen. You tried at least while all the other ones will never try and therefore will never have a chance of achieving the goal. Key is to try and to give it a fair shot. Not trying means surrender.
