Good Wednesday to you. Time is flying and Sunday’s marathon is coming closer. If you have been following my journey you know that it is not yet 100% certain that I can run the marathon which would totally suck. I am fighting an ear infection (yes, an ear infection!) and things have been quite bumpy for the last 9 days. The infection is retreating, but it is taking its sweet time and that just makes me feel so frustrated. I am on the home-stretch of a long and busy 13 week journey to get ready for my first marathon and now this stupid ear infection is threatening to make all the hard work for nothing.
I am very determined to go and have all kinds of Plan B’s in place, but I am not going to risk my health either. I am Ok with feeling uncomfortable, but I am not going to risk my health. I came back from my primary care physician from a quarterly blood work & check-up visit and I have a green light from his side of things. Tomorrow morning I have an appointment with the Ear Nose Throat Specialist. If I would have to run today, I would not do it, but I am feeling a little bit better every day and that’s what I am putting my hopes on.
I will start my travel preparation today after work, but other than that I will not do anything else other than rest. If I travel I will travel light and so there is not that much to do. Since I have not been able to run I am wearing my race day running shoes as my daily shoe right now to break it. I know it is not the same, but it is as good as it gets. I am very used to this model and feel comfortable doing it this way. I looked at the race map and I am still undecided if to carry at least some fluids. I do have a running belt that I will wear, but that is mainly for the pocket. It will fit my phone or a small camera + has room for ID and a credit card/cash for after the race. The belt also has the option for attaching two 8oz. bottles and since I am used to run with a belt during my long training run I might just do the same during the race. Water or Gatorade should be available every 2 miles, but that means ~20 minutes between water stops for me and given that I am not 100% fit it might be better to carry at least 1 bottle.
The Las Vegas weather forecast for Sunday looks almost perfect and I hope it will stay way as the week progresses. I would be really happy if the winds stay in the range where they are right now. You can see all necessary data in the screenshot.
Keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to go and run this marathon.
