It almost felt like a Zombie apocalypse this morning when I went running. I have never seen that many people out “walking” at 5.00 AM in the morning. Usually the sidewalks are empty and I have the “whole world” for myself. At one point I left the sidewalk and ran on the street because of people “blocking” the sidewalks. Anyway, it was a great run overall. I like the early morning hours for my workouts in general because after a good workout – be it bootcamp (Kosama) or running I am totally energized for the rest of the day.
I ran for almost 6.5 miles this morning and after a slow start I was able to increase the speed and keep it at the faster level. My legs have been feeling beat up lately and so I am happy with the overall pace for this run (8.47 average pace / 6.47 miles). Since doing my triple marathon challenge in May I have shifted a bit more to my bootcamp workouts as a form of strength training. For one strength training is a great way to improve speeds and second off season (=off season from running races) is a great time to concentrate on those things. I am also using the bootcamp workouts to build up a stronger core and back. I became sick during my spring marathon training and while I usually did the bootcamp workouts and running each day (= 2 workouts per day), for the last 6 weeks of my marathon spring training I pretty much had to pass on the bootcamp workouts. So, now I am making up for that + I want to overall improve my running and so this should help me to build a better foundation.
My next race will be the Denver 10K & Half Marathon on September 7th. I will run this race with my 9 year old son (at least that is the plan). His training has been interrupted a few times and the longest run he has done so far has been a 4 miler. Since then he has actually been having problem completing a 5K run and he also hurt himself a couple of times. So, we will see how this pans out, but I hope that he and I will be able to do this race together.
That’s it for today. I am planning a 10 miler for tomorrow and then the rest of the weekend is reserved for studying. I have interesting topics to cover – ITIL certification and also stock charts / candlestick training.
