On Saturday I finally went for my first run since the Las Vegas Marathon. It felt good to be out there again, however it would have been nice if the weather would have co-operated, too. It was cold and the entire day was gloomy and it was not fun being outside. Since I am still fighting the stupid ear infection I was wearing a hat that covered my ears, but with sweat and cold temperatures around freezing it was not the best running experience and I called it a day after 5.6 miles. I just did not want to risk anything and getting a cold head during a run when having an ear infection is just not such a good idea.
The run was good and I held a 9:26 average pace per mile. I wanted to take it easy and slowly ease back into the process of running. My legs felt good and overall it was a very good run. Not many people were outside and usually I see more runners, but with the weather not being so nice I saw only one other fellow runner. We noded at each other when we crossed paths and that was it.
Over the next two weeks I desperately need to run and work out again. I am scheduled to run a half marathon on December 7th and I want it to be a good experience. My main goal right now is to stop the loss of fitness and make sure my body starts building up fitness again. I ran a marathon one week ago and while I did lose some fitness over the last three weeks now, getting back into a normal workout routine will stop the process of losing fitness and use the current state as a foundation. I am good with that and it should be just in time for the half marathon. I am not going to plan for a specific training process or even a taper. I have run too many longs that were longer than the half marathon distance as part of my marathon training and so I will rest just the Friday before the race (which is on a Saturday) and probably just do one workout on the Thursday before the race (compared to my usual two daily workouts during training).
Today I went for my first Kosama workout in three weeks and I was not sure how my head would be holding up, but it turned out to be Ok most of the time. I passed on two or three exercises because my head did not like it (tuck jumps as an example – heavy impact = not good for my ear infection), but other than that I was able to fully participate in the session. It was Kick-Boxing day and I had a lot of fun pounding the bag with my hands and feet during the different exercises. Since I have not been to Kosama in three weeks I will probably be sore tomorrow. After today’s training I went over to 24 Hour Fitness and spent about 15 minutes in the hot tub/Spa and relaxed before taking a shower and getting dressed.
It definitely feels good to be at my normal workout routine again. I am going to stick to one workout per day for this week, but will probably do two workouts per day next week.
