Yesterday, Saturday January 12th, 2019 I did run about 14 miles as my last long-ish run of my training cycle for the Coldwater Rumble 100 Mile Ultra Trail run. It was a really good run and now it is just counting down until the 19th of January. I am in the middle of my taper for this race. About a week ago I ran 22 miles as my last long run. It was a sucky run. My legs were heavy and I had really low energy levels. For the last 10 days I am not feeling great and way too many people around me are sick and since a lot of that happens at work, it is hard to avoid. I am overloading on vitamin C and D to fight off whatever I am exposed to.
While I have been able to fight it all off until now, I can tell that I am not 100% fit. It takes a lot of energy to fight off cold and flu viruses. Knock on wood, almost there and so far it is all good. Finally, for the last two days I seem to be getting back to normal.
Training overall has gone very well. I am now fine-tuning my equipment setup. I have new Hoka ATR Challenger 4 shows lined up and are building my check list for the 100 mile ultra marathon distance. I have to fly to Phoenix and that makes it a bit more challenging regarding equipment. I had originally planned to drive to Phoenix, but unfortunately I now have to head out for business right from Phoenix – going to Miami for a corporate event. I am really (not) looking forward to sit on a plane the day after a 100 mile endurance run. But more about that in a later blog post.
