Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I hope you are going to have a great day today. My day started with the traditional Turkey Day 5K run here in Highlands Ranch. Not sure how accurate it is, but I saw race bibs going into the 5,000s and it felt very crowded today. So, maybe there were over 5,000 people running this morning.
It was a family run for us. It was actually the first 5K for my 8 year old son and we had a blast. He was such a trooper and ran almost the entire distance except for two very short walking breaks between mile #2 and mile #3. He even had some energy left to sprint towards the finish line and we passed a lot of people. It was a lot of fun. Of course the free swag after the run was almost as much of his interest as the run itself, but hey – getting kids to run and actually enjoy it is awesome. We had a lot of fun and a great experience.
We walked back to the car and I switched from the race T-Shirt with bib into my Nike Dri-Fit jacket and then took off by foot to run home. Unfortunately the Turkey Day run is only a 5K and that feels just a little short for me. So, I ran another 5 miles home which was mainly uphill, but it was a good run.
I came home, took a shower and then got started on the Turkey. We have a 21 lbs. Turkey in the oven and the house is already smelling a lot like Turkey. I love that smell and I am already getting hungry – can’t barely wait for the Turkey Dinner late this afternoon. I am glad I got my workouts in for today so that I can eat a lot of Turkey, but beware – I am already planning to work out again tomorrow. I am well aware of how fast the pounds can pile on my body. So, I will enjoy the day, eat almost in moderation and have a good time with my family.
Here are some pictures from the race:
Happy Thanksgiving 🙂
